I want to import or export products outside the European Union

What is an EORI number?
Your company is growing, and you want to sell your products abroad? Or you have found a supplier abroad, and want to import those products to sell in Belgium. EORI stands for Economic Operators Registration and Identification number. It is a unique identification number for companies that import or export products from or to a country outside the European Union. Your EORI number is the same as your VAT number, or in exceptional cases, it may correspond to your national register number.
Why do you need to apply for this EORI number?
This is a legal obligation. When you submit your application, your VAT number will be included in the EORI database. From then on, you may export and import products outside the EU. With this number, your company is recognised automatically, which is efficient for you and for customs. Without an EORI number, customs authorities will not be able to validate your customs declarations and release your goods, with all the (economic) consequences this entails.
How do you apply for your EORI number?
First check if you are already in the EORI database. You can do this via the European Commission website. Enter your VAT number and see if your company is linked to the EORI number. If you don't have a valid EORI number yet, and you want to import or export goods outside the EU, get your EORI number in order quickly and avoid annoying customs problems!
